How we check listings
Every yard on Landscape Supply Finder went through four steps. The last check finished on 2026-10-15.
- Found. We started from public map listings for landscape supply stores, mulch suppliers and sand and gravel suppliers across the US. Closed businesses, listings without a street address and duplicates were removed. Big box garden centers were left out.
- Confirmed. We read each business's website to confirm it sells mulch, soil, compost, sand, gravel or stone to customers. Landscapers and excavators that only install material were removed. Businesses whose websites we couldn't read aren't listed yet.
- Detailed. A language model read each yard's product, pricing, delivery and FAQ pages and pulled out details: materials, colors and sizes, delivery area, fees, minimums, pickup, prices. For every detail it had to give a quote from the page.
- Checked. Our code then looked for each quote on the page it came from. If the quote wasn't there, or a product name, price, distance or ZIP code didn't appear in the page text, the detail was thrown out. The quotes are shown under "Where this came from" on each listing.
What we don't guess
- Prices are converted only when the yard states the unit. A "scoop" or "load" without a stated size stays as posted. Yards and tons are never converted into each other.
- Delivery is shown only when the yard says it delivers. Selling mulch doesn't mean a yard delivers it.
- "Screened" topsoil is listed as screened only when the yard says so, and the screen size only when it's stated.
- Black or red mulch is listed as dyed only when the yard says it's dyed or colored.
